Day 53 - Lake Elphinstone to Lotus Creek - 155km
Back on the bitumen the wheels were spinning fast and I wanted to get back to the coast, there were a few days to get to Rockhampton but they were all sealed.
I would be taking the old Bruce highway, a stretch of road which was once named "death alley" after a series of murders occurred along its stretch. The Bruce highway had been realigned closer to the coast but the old stretch still remained as an alternative route.
The road was undulating and relatively straight, little traffic and quite enjoyable to ride. Old cars littered the highway, I wondered if they were relics of ambushes and murders from the 60s. There are no roadhouses or stops along the stretch, well at least they are not open, now people's homes.
I just kept riding and also due to an early start clocked up my highest distance yet at 155km.
