Day 52 - Mt. Coolon to Lake Elphinstone - 100km
I had spent most of my time since I left Townsville 4 days ago on unsealed roads and the though of hitting a sealed road today was what spurred me on.
Mostly mine workers used these roads, surprisingly there is a town about 70km from here, a mining town called Moranbah which is the most expensive city in all of Queensland. An artificial city catering to the local miners, equipped with supermarkets and even a McDonald's. I knew there was a maccas nearby as I had been seeing the rubbish for a while now.
A man stopped and said I was mental and if I knew where I was going. We had a chat and he offered me his cold coke which I gladly accepted. Sorry it's no sugar he said as he pulled away.
I made it to Lake Elphinstone camp site, the lake was bone dry, cattle were grazing on it, quite a weird sight. I imagine it was quite a beautiful spot when full of water. A local food me its the 3rd year of drought out here.
